Pie pumpkins generally will be far smaller than pumpkins preferred for carving. Large pumpkins are bad for pies. The larger a pumpkin is, the more the flavor is spread out over more flesh, weakening the flavor. Pie pumpkins have a more dense flesh that isn’t as stringy. It’s easier to scrape out in bigger chunks, rather than in stringy clumps like spaghetti squash.
